GNM Nursing Admission 2021: Application, Date, Eligibility & Process

 

GNM Nursing or the General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) is a diploma course offered by various institutes across States. The exams are conducted at State level. The details regarding the GNM Nursing entrance exam will be made available on the official websites of the conducting bodies of the respective States. GNM Nursing is a three and a half year diploma course inclusive of a six-month internship, and can be pursued after completing Class 12 with Science, Arts and Commerce streams (Preferably Science).

 Admission to GNM Nursing diploma course is facilitated via the entrance exams or few institutes allow admission on the basis of merit. The entrance exam is based on the subjects opted by the candidate in the class 12 examination. Respective conducting bodies releases the application forms every year. The GNM Nursing application filling process is subjected to differences in the guidelines and format designed by the respective conducting authorities.

Karnataka GNM Nursing Exam

 

Some State Nursing Councils along with the State level Health departments organize the GNM Nursing entrance exams. The Indian Nursing Council (INC) which is the supreme governing body of the Nurses has issued a detailed eligibility criteria for GNM Nursing and on the basis of the same the GNM Nursing applications are invited. As the INC had already laid the guidelines regarding the GNM Nursing eligibility and is common across the States but in few cases, there can be some changes in the eligibility criteria depending upon the reservation criteria the State follows. 

Karnataka GNM 2021 exam is conducted by Karnataka State Diploma in Nursing Examination Board, Bengaluru.

 

GNM Nursing 2021 Application Form Dates

 

The admissions to the GNM Nursing diploma programme are concluded on the basis of merit and the entrance test. The INC along with the State Nursing Councils under the aegis of Health and Welfare Ministry, Government of India and the State Health departments are considered responsible for the admission process of GNM Nursing diploma course.

The dates for the entrance exam is not based on the college or on institute, candidate have to find out which colleges accepts the score of the respective entrance exams in their state before filling the application form.

 For Karnataka GNM 2021, the dates are from First week of August 2021 to Second week of September 2021.

 

GNM Nursing Eligibility

 

The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has set standard eligibility criteria for the GNM Nursing diploma course. The eligibility criteria is uniform across the states but the allotment of seats is carried out on the basis of the reservation rules of the respective state.  Below is the eligibility criteria laid by the INC:

  • The aspirant must have cleared class 12 with English and must have secure a minimum of 40 percent in aggregate in the qualifying examination and English separately from any recognized board State Open School recognized Candidates are also eligible for State Open School recognized by the State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government. However, aspirants with Science stream will be given preference
  • The aspirant must have passed class 12 with English securing 40 percent in aggregate in vocational ANM course from any Institute recognized by the Indian Nursing council
  • Aspirant must have passed class 12 with English securing 40 percent in aggregate in Vocational Stream-Health care Science from a recognized CBSE board/Centre
  • The aspirant must be a Registered ANM having qualifying mark

The GNM is a three-year diploma course in Nursing with six-months of mandatory internship is the diploma course which can be pursued after class 12 irrespective of the stream taken in the qualifying exam (class 12).
